By freeing these parts from their burden, peace is created in your inner system. What is inner child work?

Everyone Has Inner Part

Think about that one time you were visiting friends and noticed that a part of you wanted to go home, while another part wanted to stay. And chances are, there was yet another part that had all sorts of opinions about it.​

What Are Inner Child Parts

Inner child parts are your most pure and vulnerable aspects. Think about how you were as a child: pure, like a blank slate, yet already carrying the potential of who you would become—just like a seed contains everything needed to grow into a tree. But as a child, you were also vulnerable and dependent. At that young age, you don’t yet have the ability to fully understand or process pain. The pain of feeling unloved, not belonging, being unappreciated, or feeling physically unsafe can be overwhelming. Often, children unconsciously conclude: “It must be my fault that this is happening.”​

The Formation of Burdened Part

When a child experiences deep emotional pain that is too much to bear, two things happen:

  1. Suppressing – The painful, overwhelming emotions and negative thoughts from your most vulnerable parts are deeply buried so that you don’t have to face them.

  2. Protecting – At the same time, protective parts emerge, saying: “Never again!” These parts do everything in their power to prevent you from feeling that pain again.

These protective parts often show up clearly in your thoughts and behavior. They work extremely hard to help you. Think about:​

  • The people-pleaser, who helps you meet the expectations of others.

  • The perfectionist, who ensures that everything you do is good enough.

  • The numbing part, who binge-watches series or has that extra drink to ease discomfort.

  • The rational thinker, who keeps you up at night, desperately trying to solve that one problem.

 

If you recognize these protective patterns in your life, you can assume that your inner system also contains parts burdened with suppressed emotions. This inner burden often manifests as stress, overthinking, feeling stuck in patterns, and the frustrating sense that you’re not fully expressing what’s inside you. Over time, this burden can even lead to burnout and depression.​​

These parts finally get the space to share their stories and emotions and to be freed from the burdens they have carried for so long. It is my experience that everyone has vulnerable and hidden parts. It says nothing about the quality of your life or about the love of your parents or caregivers. Everyone has their own baggage and wounds, and if you are not aware of them, they often keep you trapped in limiting patterns.

What does an inner child work process look like?

  1. Getting to know each other and setting goals

    We focus on your request for help, what you are done with and what you would like to change in your life. Depending on the amount of work you have already done in your life, and where you are in your own process, we ensure a suitable approach.

  2. Getting to know your inner parts
    Based on what lives inside you, you will get to know your inner parts better. You determine the course, and we do this at a pace that feels safe for all your inner parts.

  3. Working with inner child parts

    Your hidden and vulnerable parts are given the space to be there completely. They are finally allowed to share what they have experienced and what they have been carrying with them all this time. In a safe environment they find peace, recognition and healing.

  4. Integration and completion

    The insights and healing from the sessions translate into your daily life. You notice that you deal with your feelings more consciously and that obstructive patterns slowly make way for more peace and balance. We pay attention to how you can integrate this work, so that the change is permanent.

Gaining insight into your inner parts is extremely effective in breaking patterns and letting go of fear, so that more space is created to be yourself and shape your own life from a place of peace and confidence.

 

In addition to working with inner parts, I use Mindfulness and Nonviolent Communication techniques. Mindfulness helps you to be more present in the moment and to make conscious choices, even in challenging situations. Nonviolent Communication is a powerful tool to be more connected to yourself and others, by better understanding and expressing feelings and needs.
